About Me

Sarah Watson,

Hello, I’m Sarah

I’m a qualified counsellor and supervisor, offering a safe, supportive and compassionate space where you can pause, reflect and explore what is happening in your professional practice.

As a supervisor, I use the 7-eyed model of supervision developed by Hawkins and Shohet, alongside a person-centred approach. I also draw on ideas and techniques from other approaches, including Inner Child work, Sandtray and creative ways of working.

For me, supervision is about much more than simply discussing cases. It is an opportunity to step back from your day-to-day work, reflect on your practice, develop your skills and knowledge, and consider the different aspects of the therapeutic relationship. I aim to create a supervisory relationship where you feel able to be open, curious and reflective, in a way that feels safe, caring and supportive.

My experience

Alongside my private practice, I work with a local counselling charity specialising in bereavement and loss. This has given me particular experience in supporting people affected by loss, bereavement and grief, as well as working with issues including stress, anxiety, depression, abuse and trauma.

I understand that counselling work can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging. Supervision provides an important opportunity to think about the work you are doing, the impact it may have on you, and how you can continue to grow as a practitioner.

Whether you are working in private practice, within an organisation, completing your training or volunteering, I aim to offer supervision that is collaborative, thoughtful and tailored to your individual needs.

A supportive space for your practice

I believe a good supervisory relationship is built on trust, openness and mutual respect. My role is not to tell you how to work, but to help you explore your clinical work from different perspectives and develop greater awareness, confidence and understanding.

Supervision can be a place to explore the complexities of your client work, consider ethical and professional issues, reflect on your own responses, identify areas for development and support your ongoing CPD.

Most importantly, I want you to feel that supervision is a space where you can bring your whole self and your questions — including the things you’re finding difficult or are unsure about.

Your first session

I offer a free first session, giving us the opportunity to meet and decide whether we would work well together.

During this initial session, we can talk about your placement or practice, your current supervision needs and the areas you would like to focus on. We can also go through the supervision contract and any relevant paperwork, discuss how we might work together and begin to build our supervisory relationship.

There is no obligation to continue following this first session. It is important to me that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to supervise your work.

How I offer supervision

Supervision is available face-to-face in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, online or by telephone, with flexible hours available.

My standard fee is £40 per hour or £60 for 90 minutes.

I also offer a 50% discount for students and volunteer qualified counsellors.

If you’re looking for a supervisor who will offer you a warm, supportive and reflective space to explore your practice, I’d be very happy to hear from you.

Take care, and speak soon.

Sarah
